Twisters thwack two

Tulsa Coach Philip Creider has cut Horry and McCloud.

Chapel chops four

Chapel Hill Jams Coach Tommy Field has cut four players: Wahad, Skinner, Bogues and Majerle.

Marc Schlotthauer resigns as Sublimity coach

Marc has informed me that he just doesn't have time to run the Senators this fall, so that put this good franchise in need of a new coach. Marc, we wish you well and if you want to return to the SABL when you have more time, you are welcome. Good luck!

If you have a friend or relative that would like to join the SABL, here's their opportunity! Let me know ASAP and we'll get 'em in before the draft!

Druids dump four

Bettendorf Coach Mark Feeney has released J. Hornacek, M. Bryant, T. Mills and Crotty.

Longhorns lose two

Finney Coach Doug Dillingham has cut Ruffin and Cedric Henderson.

It's time to order your Strat basketball disk/cards

If you haven't done so already, it's time to place your annual Strat-O-Matic Basketball computer disk and cards order. You don't have to have the cards, you can just order the computer disk. But I find playing Strat without cards like eating vanilla ice cream without hot fudge. It's good, but the cards make it a whole lot better.

Strat's phone number is 1-800-645-3455 or 1-561-671-6566. Strat's address is 46 Railroad Plaza, Glen Head, NY 11545. The game company anticipates sending out the 2000-01 basketball game by Oct. 1, which should be just in time for out draft on Oct. 7 - IF YOU ORDER RIGHT NOW!

Jams put Patrick Ewing on the trading block

Coach Tommy Field is looking to move Ewing out of Chapel Hill for the best offer.

Four bums from Brooklyn cut by Tigers

Chucky Brown, Bimbo Coles, Q. Lewis and C. Benjamin have been cut by Coach Steve Feldheim. All cut players that have at least one minute in the last real-life (2000-01) season are in the draft and can be drafted by any SABL coach.

Speaking of annual SABL dues . . .

Half of our coaches haven't paid their annual $20 SABL dues and the deadline of Sept. 1 looms. Simply put, if you don't pay your SABL dues, you don't get to draft and you don't get to play in the SABL. I know most of ya' haven't really thought about it yet, but it's time to get the job done and help pay for this website, phone calls and all the other expenses associated with the league.

Come on, you'll feel better afterwards!

Speaking of roster cuts . . .

Sunday, Sept. 9 is coming soon! Get your roster cuts in before then if you wanna have a draft.

Of course, you don't have to cut anybody. The Aces plan to keep all 14 of their players, even little-used and just-plain-little Earl Boykins. Of course, we traded away our top three draft picks, so we don't have much choice.

Iowa sends three packing.

The pre-draft cuts keep on coming. Tornado Coach Dennis Derby has cut Simpkins, Rider and Parks. Dennis also is looking for a center.

Heat fire three

Holcomb Coach Charlie Dillingham has cut Anstey, Feick and Kittles.

Richmond Raiders cut three

Coach Frank Rowley has released three players: The late Malik Sealy, Gerard King and Erick Strickland.

Druids clean house

By Don DeCoop
QUAD-CITY TIMES
Maybe Bettendorf Druids owner Mark Feeney should not have let his hair grow out after shaving it off. A wild one certainly got loose this time.
"I'm cleaning house," Feeney said Wednesday. "Coach Davis is gone. GM Abdul-Aziz is gone. All of my players will be gone by cutdown day. I'm going to get as many draft picks as I can for the ones who are worth something and cut the rest."
Feeney's shocking announcement came as the club prepared to honor Jeff Hornacek, who is retiring.
"No one else will ever wear his number," Feeney said. "But every other number is up for grabs. The 13 other players we had as the season ended will not be back under any circumstances. We'll draft 14 new players and see what happens. Oh, and we'll find someone to coach them."
The Druids, who have made the playoffs the last two years by shattering SABL records in almost every three-point shooting category, have some value to offer other teams -- especially at the guard position. Fred Hoiberg already has been shipped to Akron for the Blimps' first round pick in 2002.
"We also expect Mookie Blaylock and Jon Barry to attract some attention," Feeney said. "Three of our forwards -- Sean Elliott, Johnny Newman and Tyrone Nesby -- might as well. But anyone -- or combination of anyones -- is available for the right draft pick."

2001 SABL Draft Order

The following is based on won-lost records and includes penalty point adjustments. Where won-lost records were tied, penalty points were used to break the ties. Also, divisional winners and the World Champions draft last:

1. Brooklyn 2. Iowa 3. Tulsa 4. Chapel Hill 5. Holcomb 6. Garden City 7. River City 8. McLean 9. Davenport 10. Finney 11. Akron 12. Bettendorf 13. San Jose 14. Richmond 15. Miles 16. Galactic 17. Tri City 18. Sublimity 19. East Asia 20. St. Lucie

Tulsa's Philip Creider makes a move
