Realignment
As it stands now, our league alignments are screwy. They should be based on geography, but because we’ve had a lot of turnover since the SABL was founded and because our previous commissioner didn’t emphasize it, we have coaches playing in the West that live in the east, those in the north playing in the South and so on.
I’ll be changing that next season. We will realign and use geography as our guideline. Teams change over time, getting good and bad, so I don’t believe in aligning divisions based on perceived player strengths. Here’s what we’ll look like, if all the coaches that are with us now stay with us:
WEST
Dillingham, Dillingham, Stahl, Creider & Rogers.
EAST
Scott, Feldheim, Ellis, Ayala, Walters
SOUTH
Aubrey, Smith, Rodriguez, Rowley, South
NORTH
Traxler, Robinson, Feeney, Feeney, Feeney
If we don’t have any more coaching changes, this is how I see our lineup. The only problem with it is that we have two Indiana teams playing in the South division. Oh well, maybe they’re in southern Indiana.
Penalty point time
Let’s get the unpleasant part over with: Ayala – 13, Robinson – 5, Rogers – 3, Ellis – 2, Rowley – 2, Walters – 1, D. Dillingham – 1.
Now we get 14 guys
I don’t think 13 players are quite enough for our rosters. Next year, you can have up to 14. You must have at least 12.
Phone Draft Day
This is a long way off, but we will have our annual telephone draft starting at Noon, EST, Saturday, Oct. 11. We should only be drafting about 4 rounds, so it will done in one day. If you can’t do the phone draft, send me a paper list and I’ll use that. If you can’t do either, I will draft for you.
I will ring your phone number twice and hang up. If your line is busy, I’ll try twice more. If I can’t get you by then, I’ll draft for you.
When you call me back, I’ll read you the list of players that have been taken since your last pick. You’ll have 10 seconds for each player chosen to make your decision. If you don’t pick anybody by then, I’ll hang up and pick your player for you.
New constitution
Enclosed is a new SABL Constitution and Schedule Of Events. It’s pretty much what we need, but check it out. I’m open to suggestions.
Team nicknames
Send or tell me what you want your team to be called next year on the official SABL League Disk. My team will be the St. Lucie Aces. Let me know by May 1.
Trade for next year
Scott Ellis sends M. Jackson, S. Smith, Sabonis & Mursean to Frank Rowley for S. O’Neal, Douglas, Causwell & Eddie Johnson.
