More statistics

Check out the statistics this month. There are lots more of them. Thanks for your support.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that I’ve found the game file importation to be unreliable, too. For instance, I can play SABL league games just fine, but I can no longer reliably import or export stats. The bottom line is that you must always back up your SOM game before importing any game files. If you don’t, you run the risk of zapping out your SABL league. It’s happened to me several times.

Always send a paper back up of your box scores in case your computer disk doesn’t work and always send Steve Walters paper and disk copies of every game you play. Also send Steve a disk copy of every game your opponents send you on disk. That way Walters has a back up if somebody’s disk goes bad.

Many coaches didn’t send in stats to Steve this time. No more Mr. Nice Guy. I’m assessing 2 penalty points to everyone that didn’t send them in and I’ll give you 5 penalty points if you don’t send any in at the end of this month. They must be in Steve’s hands by month’s end.

Penalty point time

Let’s get the unpleasant part over with: Ayala – 13, Robinson – 5, Rogers – 3, Ellis – 2, Rowley – 2, Walters – 1, D. Dillingham – 1.

Playoff picture

Two teams have already sewn up playoff spots: Me and Steve Walters. Steve Feldheim also is pleading a strong case. After that, it’s not as clear, but Nick South’s team looks strong and Phil Creider is making a charge.

It’s Bill, not Phil

Phil Traxler is Bill Traxler. And you can call me Ray . . .

Neat stuff & stats

Steve Walters has scored 140 or more points an incredible 10 times this year. He’s also scored 80 points or more in one half four times. And half his team’s losses were to me.

The SABL is continuing its tradition of sharpshooting as nine regulars are hitting more than 59% of their FGs. Seven are hitting more than half of their 3-point FGs!

Curiously, we don’t have any crunching rebounders. Only two, Rodman and The Admiral, are averaging more than 10 a game.

Take a look at Richmond’s 3-point stats. He’s bombing and making them.

Stats won’t be perfect

Due to the instability of the SOM basketball program, I don’t anticipate our SABL stats to be perfect this year. I do expect our Won-Lost stuff to be accurate, however.

There is no other computer basketball game on the market that’s better than SOM, despite its woeful statistical package. We are stuck with it. However, if no improvements are made in the stats package next year (and I’m not holding my breath), we’ll have to find some brave coaching soul that will compile the stats by hand in a spreadsheet. Call me if you’d like to volunteer. The SABL Needs YOU!

See you next issue!
