The SABL BS

Volume 2 Issue 12 January 1997

FROM COMMISSIONER SCOTT ELLIS, 2ND AMER. BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Illicit plan is now obvious

Ok, I admit it. I’m keeping the SABL alive so my team can win 70+ games like the Bulls did last year in the real NBA.

The Ellis team is rolling with only two losses so far, but I’ve only had one real tough opponent so far, Steve Walters. I won all 6 games. I will miss being Steve’s best friend.

There I go again

Since Bill Clinton is my role model, I’d like to yet again (and hopefully for the last time until next time) change our statistical reporting procedure. Our four dice coaches (Plisko, Sill, Seaman and Stahl) should now send their box scores to Kevin Feeney. As dice statistician, Kevin will do the laborious work of manually creating dice computer game files for us.

After that, he’ll ship those files off to Steve Walters, who will compile everything. Steve will then give it to me for mailing. These two guys deserve our thanks for doing a thankless stat job. Sorry for the continuing confusion, but I think we’ve finally got a system that will work efficiently.

Sill plays in March

Keith Sill should start playing games on March 5, Segment 12. Until then, keep autoplaying both the home and away games.

Schedule of events

Next mailing I’ll be sending out a schedule of events for the 1997-98 SABL year. It’ll be our guideline for what to expect and do when.

Good dues news

I’m happy to report that 13 of our 20 coaches have paid their $15 SABL dues. Thanks, folks. The rest of you have until Feb. 15 before you’re gone.

Standings, stats

Finally you have some records in your hands. Sorry it took so long, but you should be getting them regularly from now on, around the 10th of the month. I’d like to do a lengthy analysis, but I’ll save that for next time because this stuff needs to get mailed.

WEST DIVISION

Two-time defending SABL champ Dave Plisko is probably still the best team in his division and he certainly is the best defensive team in the SABL. But his offensive is down. Also, he and other coaches only have a few games shown because of our getting used to our new reporting method. Dave’s beaten Brian Seaman 7 of 8 games. Look for more stats from Plisko and other coaches next time.

EAST DIVISION

Too soon to say who’s doing what, but you can say that on paper, Dan Ayala’s team is easily the best in the division. The question is whether he has the coaching smarts to convert that talent into wins. The Feeney brothers could be battling for the first pick in the 1997 draft.

SOUTH

If you think I have the division sewn up, I must remind you about Steve Feldheim. He won this division last year and he’s still good this year. He keeps me honest. Charles Dillingham’s team’s OK, too.

NORTH

Walters is the favorite here, but look for Leon Rogers to challenge. Mike Rodriguez will be good, too.
