Aces trumped by Galactic, Bombers win
Anything can happen in the playoffs. And it did in the St. Lucie-Galactic Round 2 series as Steve Walters team of good old guys bested the arrogant Ace bad boys to win the round 4 games to 2. Galactic won the final two games of the thrilling contest 137-121 and 129-119 to advance to the Classic Conference Championships, dethroning the defending SABL Champions.
Congratulations Steve. Remind me to kill you later.
In the Royal Conference, the Conference Championships are set as Nick South's Blocher Bombers beat Frank Rowley's Richmond Raiders in a super seven game series 4-3. It's Chris Feeney's Tri City Blackhawks vs. Blocher to see who goes to the SABL Championships.
Tri City triumphs in second round
Chris Feeney's Tri City Blackhawks defeated Tom Jargo's Seattle Chieftains in Round Two of the Royal Conference Championships to advance to the Royal Conference finals.
Tri City will take on the winner of the Blocher-Richmond second round match, which Frank Rowley's Raiders currently lead 2-1.
In the Brooklyn-Heat second-round match, Steve Feldheim's Tigers hold a 3-2 lead in this Classic Conference series.
Meanwhile, a series for the ages is being played as Galactic takes on the Aces in their Classic Conference second-rounder. That series is tied at 2-2, but Steve Walters' Galactic team was almost up 3-0 until St. Lucie's 4th Quarter miracle in Game 3. With Galactic taking both games on St. Lucie's home court to go up 2-0 in the series, Galactic lead by more than 20 points at the start of the 4th quarter. I was already drafting my concession speech when the Aces outscored Galactic 43-17 in that final quarter to rescue their season at the last minute.
I have never seen any SOM basketball team, including mine, come back from a 20+ point deficit in the fourth quarter to win the game. I then beat Steve in Game 4 to even the series.
Job keeps stats from going on line
I've put in 130 hours the last two weeks at my job and that's why you've not seen any additional stats on our website. My job pressures have eased a bit and stats should start getting posted soon. The main thing is to keep our playoffs going to completion by the end of this month. We'll have all summer to look at the stats.
Thanks for bearing with me. I'll have our new 1998-99 schedule and drafting dates up on the web in July, too.
