Holcomb Heat hot
Though his team changes almost by the minute, Charlie Dillinghams current crew is pacing the SABL in the early going with a 13-1 record atop the Classic Conference. Steve Feldheims Brooklyn Tigers roar in at 15-4.
In the Royal Conference, several teams are off to good starts, including the Dazzlers, Richmond, and the Bombers.
Give Tom time
Michigan Gearjammer Coach Tom Ganterts mother passed away recently. On behalf of the SABL, we all send our sympathy to Tom and his family.
Please give Tom until Jan. 16 to get you series results for all his games this year. Tom also says if you have games in Segment 1-5 to play, let the computer run his team, set it on No Auto Rest, and play them.
Hello goodbye
Two coaches have left the SABL fold: Bill Robinson of the Motor City Maulers and Bill Traxler of the Michigan Panthers.
Even though he paid me his dues, I havent heard from Bill in months. Motor City is now in the capable hands of Mike Saylor, 1469 W. State Road 56 #3, Scottsburg, IN 47170. Phone: 812-752-5268. Email: mikesaylor@hotmail.com
Bill Traxler had to leave his Panthers because of a new job. Josh Marquardt takes over at P.O. Box 5, Holcomb, KS 67581. Email is cdilling@pld.com. Phone: 316-277-0281.
If Joshs address sounds like Charles and Doug Dillinghams, thats because it is. Hes temporarily staying with them.
Please send all instructions and results, including December games, to these two. And dont play any series with the instructions Bill Traxler sent you. Give the new guys until Jan. 15 to catch up.

Ive been out of commission most of the Christmas holiday season, but Im back now. I hope to post standings and results by the end of the first week of January, after I get everybodys results. Thanks to those whove sent results so far and keep them coming!

Calgary is reversed
A reminder when you play Jeff Stahls Calgary Condors, you play as the away team. Ive already noticed that some of you arent doing this. You will be making our statisical lives harder if you dont.
The reason we do this with Jeff is because he is a dice player and he cant choose a neutral court. And since there is a built-in 8-point bias in favor of the home team in the dice game, coaches have to play as the away team to offset the natural advantage a human has versus computer or paper instructions.
For this reason, Jeffs stats will always be showing up a little later than everyone elses. I have to see how everyone else handles them before I input anything.
Watch those rosters!
Please be careful and be darn sure who is on your opponents roster before you play your games.
For instance, Todd Day and Hershey Hawkins are not on my roster. I traded them. I did not list them on my roster in my strategy. But a careless coach didnt check my roster, left those guys on my team, and since I let the computer run my team in away games, Hawkins and Day showed up playing a few minutes for the Aces anyway. UGH!
Its each coaches responsibility to keep up with league trades and rosters. If a coach doesnt follow instructions properly, and plays guys that arent even on his opponents rosters, and that causes his opponent to lose, thats a protestable, penalty-point offense.
By the same token, if coaches dont let their opponents know clearly who is on their rosters on their instructions, then the fault is at the other end. Be careful!

Mark Feeney of the Bettendorf Druids contributed this fun article after my teams game at his place. I thought everyone should enjoy it. Thanks Mark!
Aces open title defense with easy victory
By Craig Cooper
QUAD-CITY TIMES
The Port St. Lucie Aces still hold all of the cards. The Aces showed why they are the defending Second American Basketball
League champions Tuesday night by trumping the Bettendorf Druids 132-96 at the Mark of the Quad-Cities in Moline.
"Michael Jordan may be gone, but man, they have the horses," Druids Coach Mark Feeney said in the locker room after the game. "We stayed with them for one quarter, and they sprinted into overdrive."
Behind the three-point shooting of Darrick Martin, the Druids jumped out to a 34-29 lead after the first quarter, when they hit 68 percent of their shots.
"We came out smoking, but we'd have to keep that up for a whole game to stay close," Martin said. "Their inside game is much too strong, and they have so many weapons."
Shaquille O'Neal led the Aces with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Kendall Gill and Alonzo Mourning each added 21. Mourning missed only one shot, going seven-for-eight from the field and making all seven of his free throws. As a team, the Aces shot 60 percent from the floor outrebounded the Druids 51-27. Fourteen of those were offensive rebounds, including five by Mourning.
"Our defense wasn't that bad,'' Feeney said. "but we couldn't keep their big guys off the offensive boards. With O'Neal and Mourning inside, especially when they're both on the court, it's almost impossible to stop them.
"We also turned the ball over way too many times. A great team like the Aces will make you pay for that."
In the first quarter it was the Aces who mishandled the ball as the
Druids raced out to a five point lead.
"Martin sure was hot early, and their press bothered use a bit,'' Aces
point guard Gary Payton said. "But we knew if we kept our composure, we could shift to a higher gear."
Payton, who had 18 points and dealt out nine assists, sparked the Aces to a 78-point surge over the next two quarters that put the game away. Scottie Pippen added 20 points for the Aces, while reserve point guard Mugsy Bogues handed out seven assists.
