1999-2000 SABL minutes are on the air!
Thanks to the hard work of our annual SABL minute-minder, Tulsa Twisters Coach Phillip Creider, we have our new official 1999-2000 SABL Minute Guide posted! Check out exactly how much your players can play next season, thanks to Philip. You can also examine the minutes of that NBA rookie you want to draft, too!
Great job again, Phillip. Drop him an email with your thanks.
New rosters, with recent trades, are posted
New rosters, with all our recent trades for next season, are now posted. Our rosters are now current, and will remain so until our midseason trade deadline kicks in again at 11:59 pm, Jan. 31, 2000. I will update them continually as soon as I receive confirmation of a trade.
Brooklyn pulls it out of the fire in 7 games
The Brooklyn Tigers have won their second straight conference title, winning the Royal Conference finals 4 games to 3 over a tough Finney Longhorns.
Game 6 was a squeaker, 110-108. With 4 seconds left, Finney was two points down and called time out. The play was called for, who else, Michael Jordan, who passed to Brevin Knight. Knight drove to the basket and missed, clinching the win for the Tigers. MJ led all scorers with 36 and Brooklyn's Karl Malone had 31. Malone also had 12 boards and Brooklyn's Anthony Mason had 11 rebounds. Knight had 11 assists.
In Game 7, it was a blow out, 114-76. Finney's A.C. Green, Charles Oakley and Knight got into foul trouble in the first quarter. Jordan was held to 20 points. Karl Malone scored 26 and Brooklyn's Jeff Hornacek had 20. Jeff Lawson (who?) had 10 rebounds for Brooklyn.
"Found out one thing this game (Game 7)," said Brooklyn Coach Steve Feldheim after the series. "HAL (SOM's computer coach) manages my team better than I do! I only chose shots this game."
Now the stage is set for a super showdown between the team that this year set an SABL regular season record of 77-5, the Classic Conference Champion St. Lucie Aces, and the franchise with the most conference titles (3) and SABL championships (2), the Brooklyn Tigers. Brooklyn also had the league's second-best record at 71-11. Only one team can be the 1998-99 SABL champion and just who that will be will be decided sometime this month!
Wowie Zowie!
Time to pick All-Stars, MVP, top coach
Who says we don't have things to do in the summer? It's time to pick our SABL Coach Of The Year, MVP and All-Star team. I'm sending you an email on how to do this. Here's the scoop:
1. You need to send me your single vote for SABL MVP. Look at the stats, look at the team's success, look at your horoscope, whatever you want. Send me one name, and one name only.
2. Send me your single vote for Coach Of The Year. Don't just look at won-lost records, look at how on time a coach was and how well he did with what he had to work with.
3. Send me two votes at each position (2 points guards, 2 shooting guards, two small forwards, two power forwards, two centers) in each conference, for SABL All-Stars. This gives you 20 votes total. The two conference All-Star teams will face-off in an All-Star contest next month, played by the first two coaches to volunteer to do it!
4. I need all your votes by July 31. Voting is not mandatory, so you won't get any penalty points for not voting. However, I will consider sending you the latest computer viruses if you don't.
5. Results of the voting will be announced the first week of August.
GET YOUR VOTES TO ME ASAP!
It's early, but why not pay your dues now?
Your $20 annual SABL dues are due Sept. 1. If you don't pay, you don't play. Dues are payable to your money-grubbing commissioner, Scott Ellis. If I don't have them in my hands by Sept. 20 (when your roster cuts are due), you will be thrown out of the SABL.
Remember, we are still playing 82 games
The NBA played 50 regular season games, but the SABL is still playing its regular 82-game schedule next season. Our players can't strike. This means our limitation rule will be 100 percent instead of our normal 25 percent. 100 percent over 50 games is roughly equal to 25 percent over 82 games, believe it or not. That means if a guy had 1000 NBA minutes, he will have 2000 SABL minutes.
Philip, get your annual SABL minutes list ready early this year, if you can!
Go ahead and order your game, already
I've already ordered my 1998-99 SOM Basketball cards and Version 4.2 computer game. I've also split the shipment so I can have the cards when the come out (in late August) and the computer game when it comes out (in early September). My order totaled about $45. I called SOM's 800 number to place it: 1-800-645-3455. Have your 4.1 computer game disk number ready when you place your order to get the upgrade price.
