The SABL BS

Penalty Point report

Lateness kills play-by-mail leagues. It won't be allowed in the SABL. Here's our latest ticker and a reminder: Penalty points follow the draft picks of the affected team, as long as that team's coach stays in the SABL, even if those picks are traded to another team. That means if you own a pick from a team that has dropped down in the draft order, the pick you own from that team drops the appropriate amount in the draft order, too.

Trading drafts picks do not "cleanse" them. You make your trade, and you take your risk, both with players who can get injured and with draft picks that can go sour.

As always, I will accept appeals on any penalty assessments:

Holcomb - 5 points - 1 points for no results for Feb. 1, Deerfield at Holcomb series, 1 point for no instructions to Chapel Hill for Dec. 16 game; 2 points for no results for Meade at Holland series, Dec. 23. 1 point for no results for Dec. 23, Game 4, Meade at Holcomb. Holcomb drops down one place in the draft order this year.

Finney, 5 points - 4 points for no results for Jan. 22 series of East Asia at Finney and 1 point, for not autoplaying Philly and getting its 6-game Finney vs. Philly series played on Jan. 8. Finney drops one spot in next year's draft.

Garden City, 3 points - 1 point for not paying attention to its opponent's roster in Dec. 8 home series vs. East Asia and 2 points for no results for Jan. 2, Bettendorf at Garden City. Garden City has dropped down 1 place in the draft order this fall.

Chapel Hill - 3 points - 1 point, no results for Garden City at Chapel Hill, Dec. 16; 2 point for no results for Holland at Chapel Hill, Dec. 16 and 1 point for no results for Great Lakes at Chapel Hill series on Jan. 9. Chapel Hill drops down one place in this fall's draft.

Brooklyn's Feldheim in the hospital, autoplay his team

Let's all keep Tiger Coach Steve Feldheim, a charter SABL member, in our thoughts. He has suffered a heart attack and is in the hospital. I've talked to his wife Marilyn and she says he is a candidate for a heart transplant.

If you'd like to send Steve a card or phone him in his room, Marilyn says it's OK. Please send everything to his hopsital address: Steve Feldheim, c/o Columbia Presbyterian Hopsital, 177 Fort Washington Ave., NY, NY 10032, 6 Hudson North, Room 131

Phone: 212-543-7190

Until further notice, please autoplay Brooklyn in any home or away games you have remaining with the Tigers for the rest of the season.

Steve has won more SABL titles than any other coach and has more fun playing Strat basketball than many of us do. Let's wish him a speedy recovery. Our prayers are with you Marilyn and the rest of Steve's family. We love ya', Steve.

New stats posted, regular season winding down

The most successful SABL season yet is entering the regular season homestretch. Some teams are almost finished with their seasons (the Aces, at 72-10, are completely done) and some are behind, but we are way ahead as a league.

Check out our Team Summaries link for reports and check out our Standings and Rosters & Stats, League Totals, League Leaders, Game Highs and Team Highs for more details!

Some teams are a month behind - penalty points on way

My business trip, computer rebuilding (again) and now my flu has kept me from posting recent stats, but it shouldn't keep you from playing games. I've been compiling them ever since I got back from West Virginia. Some of our coaches are a month behind on some games.

This is your golden opportunity to catch up. When I finally get caught up myself, probably by Sunday, Feb. 20, penalty points will start rolling out again. Anything a month late gets 4 points and an instant drop a notch in this fall's draft.

Search your game to see what needs to get played and let the other coach know NOW and let me know you are working on it NOW, or you WILL get penalty points.

Autoplay the Meade Jayhawks for the rest of the year

Meade Coach Leon Rogers has asked me to tell everyone to autoplay his team in any remaining home and away games you have against his team for the rest of the season. Hopefully, he'll be back in the swing of things when our 2000-2001 season starts.

Also, don't forget to autoplay Philly, both in your home and away games with the Super Freaks, and get those games done, too.

I'm back, but give me a couple of days on new stats, etc.

Hi everyone! Glad to be back from the wilds of West Virginia. Snowed almost everyday I was there. Cold. I like Florida.
