The SABL BS

Issue 118 September 2004

FROM COMMISSIONER SCOTT ELLIS, SECOND AMERICAN BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Cards shipped today, Sept. 29

Hope you have ordered yours already. If you haven't, then you should do it now.

Hurricane Jeanne ain't going to stop us either, baby

Speaking to you courtesy of my Sears gasoline generator, this is SABL Commissioner Scott Ellis saying . . .

You are like a hurricane,

There's calm in your eye.

And I'm gettin' blown away . . .

I always loved that Neil Young song. Didn't think I'd be living it on a weekly basis, though.

My house was damaged even more, but it survived. And so will the Second American Basketball League

Join a league that even two hurricanes can't destroy - the SABL!

That's right America, you can't keep good league down. If you want a league that can survive two direct hits from two major hurricanes in just three weeks, we are it. If you want a league that will run on time even if the Commissioner has no electricity, we are it.

We don't need no stinking trade committees and we don't need no stinking utility companies either. All we need is 5 gallons of gas and a Craftsman generator.

We've been around for 10 years. Why? Because we are tough, that's why!

Hurricane Frances? Hurricane Jeanne? No problem, just get me those new cards on time, Mr. Richman.

Hurricane Frances ain't gonna stop the SABL, folks

No way, no how.

After 11 days without electricity, we are back on the air today, Sept. 15.

And things are about to get very busy.

SABL dues must reach me by Oct. 1, or you are out of the league

Annual $15 SABL dues were due on September 1. For the large majority of coaches that have paid, thanks so much.

Only four coaches haven't paid yet. Please do so by Oct. 1, or you will be expelled from the league.

First important date of the new season - 11:59pm, Oct. 17

This is when you need to get your expansion roster cuts to Player Agent Director Mark Long. Here's how it works:

1. You tell Mark what 6 players you are going to protect.

2. You list the rest of your unprotected guys from 7-14, or more, in the order you'd like to reclaim them.

3. Mark will conduct the expansion draft a week later, at 1pm EST on Oct. 23, with the new coaches picking their players from the unprotected players.

As soon as an expansion team picks one of your unprotected players, you immediately reclaim one. You must also send a "Reclamation List" of players, in order, that you would like pulled back, in case you are not available via telephone or chat room during the expansion draft.

This will continue until each Expansion team either gets a minimum of 8 players or a maximum of 10 players. Anytime after reaching 8 players, the Expansion teams can stop drafting and pick the rest of their players in the Regular draft.

Once the Expansion teams stop picking players in the Expansion Draft, all unclaimed players can be reclaimed by their previous regular team owners. If regular teams do not reclaim their old players, they will be put into the Regular Draft.

More specific Expansion and Regular Draft rules will be written by Mark Long and you'll be getting them soon.

SABL needs four new expansion coaches ASAP!

If you wait to apply until after the cards come out, you will probably not get a team in our league. Once the cards come out, everyone in the nation gets interested and leagues fill up quick.

We are one of the best and most competitive computer basketball leagues in the country. You are free to be the best that you can be in the SABL, with no silly bureaucratic and parity paralyzing rules to get in your way. We don't have a trade committee or any other league nannies looking over your shoulder. You make your own team's bed in the SABL.

If you have what it takes to build a winner and keep that winner year after year, the SABL is the league for you. We play hard, have fun and have the best bunch of coaches you'll ever play against.

It's really groovy.
